DH funding for pioneer project

Lives Unlimited along with ibk initiatives in Sheffield have secured a grant to take part in the DH/SCIE Social Work Practice Pioneer Project. We are one of 10 projects in the country.

Our Project will test out the use of social work methods in the context of a user/family led community group. We aim to support 10-15 disabled people + or - their families to get high quality information, assessment, support planning, PA recruitment and training. Alongside this we intend to have a number of workshops for disabled people with a range of impairments and families about issues around self directed support.

The Project will get off the ground by the beginning of February and go on till March 2013. It will be monitored by SCIE and the learning from our Project and the other nine should help to inform further work on personalisation.

We'll post regular updates about our progress. In the meantime there's more information on the SCIE website athttp://www.scie.org.uk/news/mediareleases/2011/021111.asp
